Tour summary
On this trip we will venture into a little-visited area of Northern Mongolia. The Yeruu river originates deep in the Khentii mountain range, a vast impenetrable area protected as Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area. We will float down the river in open canoes for five days and cover roughly 150 km. On the first three days, the river winds through densely forested mountains and we have the chance to see various wildlife. The last two days we will paddle through a wide valley, where many herder families have set up their yurts. The river is surrounded by dense alluvial forests that are home to a wide range of birds.
This trip is suitable for beginners. The river is mostly wide and calm. An experienced river guide will accompany you. During the paddling part of the tour, we will camp at beautiful spots along the riverbank.

Today we will explore the bustling capital Ulaanbaatar. Highlights include the Chinggis Khaan Museum (or Museum of National History) and a fantastic concert showcasing national music, dance and folklore.

DAY 2

We will visit the Chinggis Khan Monument, the tallest equestrian statue of the world at Tsonjin Boldog and the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park with its distinctive rock formations and beautiful landscapes.

DAY 3

We will drive to our put-in point on the river near the village of Bugant, about 620 km from Ulaanbaatar. We will pass through Darkhan, the second biggest city of Mongolia.

DAY 4 - DAY 8

These are paddling days. Overnight will be in tents. Each day we will spend approximately 4-5 hours in the canoe, giving us ample time to enjoy camp life and explore the area along the river banks. The surrounding hilltops and mountains offer great vistas of the winding Yeruu river and the adjoining valleys, sprinkled with nomads’ yurts and herds.
